"For centuries, young Welsh men used the long winter evenings to carve Love Spoons for their loved ones. Love Spoons symbolise a life of health and happiness. Give this bead to the one you hold dear to make your dreams come true."
The Love Spoons troll bead has some amazing detail added to it. It is a plaited design leading to a love heart and padlock on the opposite side of the bead. Often given by suitors to their loved one, Love Spoons were traditionally carved in wood with symbols of love and presented to a girl. They were given to symbolise a life of love, health and happiness.
Often given by suitors to their loved one, Love Spoons were traditionally carved in wood with symbols of love and presented to a girl. Young Welsh men spent many hours carving them, as did sailors whilst away at sea (hence the anchor symbols on so many love spoons). They were given to symbolise a life of love, health and happiness.
Over the years certain symbols came to have specific meanings. A horseshoe for luck, for instance, a heart for love, a wheel for support and a cross for faith. What were known as difficult carvings, such as a chain (as in the plaited section of this Trollbead), demonstrated the great skill of the carver.
This bead reminds us to cherish our loved ones and for us to help encourage them to achieve their dreams come true.
This bead was part of the UK Collection in the Trollbeads World Tour collection.
