Earrings are usually worn in pairs, but a single earring has a long history of its own, and many of the men's earrings here are sold one at a time.
In Europe, the single earring was especially popular during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. A miniature painted in England around 1588, now in the V&A, shows a man with earrings in one ear only: two interlocking gold hoops. Today, some men have one ear pierced and some have both, so an earring bought on its own can be worn alone or alongside a different design in the other ear.
A stud earring has a post that passes through the earlobe and is held behind it by a back, such as a butterfly (also called a scroll) or a screw back. Some of the studs here are set with white or black cubic zirconia or a diamond, and others take the shape of an open square or circle, a cross or a playing card. There are hoops too, including huggies, which sit close to the ear. Options include sterling silver and solid gold. For women's and unisex designs, see the full earrings collection.
