The Beauty of Fragrance Lamps

If you are looking for a gift idea that will be treasured for many years and used frequently,  you can't go far wrong with a hand-crafted fragrance lamp. We have stocked this range for nearly 15 years and customers return again and again for the replacement fragrance and new fragrance lamp for a gift for a loved one.

The most wonderful thing about these lamps are that they don't just perfume the environment in which they are placed, they also sanitise it.

Why These Fragrance Lamps are More Powerful than Scented Candles or Reed Diffusers

The fragrance lamps we sell use a "catalytic process" which means the fragrance gets thrown out a lot further using convection compared to other fragrance systems such as reed diffusers or scented candles. Both of these use diffusion to transport the fragrance molecules as the fragrance is evaporated either from the saturated reed or the wax.

With the catalytic conversion of the fragrance through the stone in the top of the fragrance lamp, the perfume is passed through the air via convection currents.

Why they Purify the Air (not just fragrance it).

The fragrance used within these fragrance lamps use a base of Isopropyl Alcohol which is well known for it's cleansing and sanitising properties - hence it is regularly used in hand sanitisers, antiseptics and cleaning products.

These ultra-fine molecules are also transported through the air along with the fragrance and, therefore, sanitise as well as fill your home environment with a beautiful aroma.

They Work Quickly And Last For Hours

You only need to light your fragrance lamp for a couple of minutes before extinguishing the flame. You will then leave the lamp to draw on the fragrance for about 30-45 minutes.

This is all it needs to fill a room (and beyond) will fragrance which will last for hours.

Beautiful Lamps

All the lamps in this range, most of which have a mosaic design, are made in glass and are hand-finished, so each one is slightly unique.

Many of our customers chose a contrasting colour to their home decor, others like it to match. There are no rules!

Exquisite Fragrances

Fragrances

Your starter lamp will come with a free fragrance oil, normally Moroccan Spice or Fresh Linen (there are others) which are best-sellers. But new fragrances are introduced all the time and it is lovely to try different ones.

Don't be tempted to unscrew the lid of a fragrance and sniff to get an idea of the scent, though. It won't smell the same due to the alcohol content of the fragrance (which is burnt off when you light the lamp). We keep a tester of every fragrance we stock in store if you want to try a different one.

Best Selling Fragrances

We can vouch for the fact that all of the Ashleigh and Burwood fragrances are subtle and classy. There are no strong chemical-perfume smells here!

Moroccan or Oriental Spice and Fresh Linen are always best selling fragrances.

Orange and Cinnamon or any of the Christmas fragrances (which never stay on the shelves very long) are popular at Christmas time.

Summer Rain has become a much-loved fragrance with our customers lately, as has Orange Blossom and Madarin and Midnight Oud.

How to Use Your Fragrance Lamp

When you unpack your fragrance lamp from the box lift the plastic mould they holds the lamp in the box and you will find a black plastic funnel. This enables easy filling of the lamp with the fragrance. You will also find an instruction leaflet.

1. After removing the caps and wick, fill your lamp with fragrance. Ashleigh and Burwood recommend filling 2/3 of the way up the bottle. I personally use less (I'll explain why later).

2. Feed the wick back into the bottle. Leave for a short while to allow the wick to absorb the liquid fragrance (this doesn't need to be done on subsequent refills unless the wick has dried out).

3. Light the stone and watch the flame (don't leave it). You will notice the flame dip a little after about 20 seconds to 2 minutes, maximum. Even if you don't notice the reduction in the flame you can now extinguish the flame with the solid snuffer cap or blow the flame out.

4. Pop the open, decorative cap on top the stone - NEVER do this when the flame is still alight. It offers protection from the hot stone and looks pretty.

5. Allow the lamp to do it's thing - and wait for your room and often a large area within that floor of your home to be filled with the most beautiful aroma.

6. After approximately 30-45 minutes, pop the solid snuffer cap on top of the stone, with the decorative cap on top of that. If you leave it longer than this (try not to) it may cause problems with the wick or stone.

NB: If you're anything like me, I regularly wander off and forget about replacing the snuffer cap and, hours later, come back to lamp realising that I've forgotten to replace the solid cap. This is not ideal as it can cause problems with the stone or wick but it does happen. As long as there is fragrance liquid in the lamp and the stone is warm it will keep working - hence using up your fragrance when it's already perfumed your room more than adequately. So I advise customers to only pour a small amount of fragrance at a time to help conserve their fragrance.

Can They Be Used with Pets Around?

Ashleigh & Burwood are passionate about not testing their products on animals, so they state that they unfortunately cannot 100% say with certainty how their lamps and lamp fragrance will affect your individual pet/s. They state, "However with this being said, we haven't been made aware of any negative impact on cats, dogs and birds in particular - many of our own staff have cats and dogs and confidently use their lamps in the home with them present, with no adverse issues.

The way our lamps are designed is that they only require a small percentage of fragrance to give a very powerful scent - a percentage so small that we wouldn't expect there to be any negative impact, however we cannot say this with 100% certainty.

Our Lamp Fragrance base is made from Isopropyl alcohol and water, which is the main basis for most hand sanitisers - so if your pet is sensitive to this then we would recommend not using our Lamps in your home or at the very least, use these in a different room where they won't be."

I have personally used these lamps for years around three previous dogs and two cats who never experienced any problems.

Let Us Know

Let us know what you think about these if you've bought one. We regularly have conversations with customers who tell us they are SO pleased they bought one or what it hit it was for a loved one.

The difficult bit is choosing the colour and the fragrance when you go to renew it.
